Independent review of Parole Board Queensland

On 20 June 2025, the Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support and Minister for Corrective Services, the Hon Laura Gerber announced the Crisafulli Government’s independent review of Parole Board Queensland would commence from 23 June 2025.

Background

The Parole Board Queensland is an independent statutory authority tasked with making objective, evidence-based and transparent parole decisions.

The Crisafulli Government is committed to restoring safety to where you live, including through ensuring an effective and strong parole system.

Mr Peter Hastie KC has been appointed to lead the review which will assess whether the Parole Board Queensland’s operations effectively support community safety and the rights of victims.

The review will deliver targeted recommendations for legislative and operational reform and a report containing the review’s findings and recommendations will be released publicly following the Crisafulli Government’s review of its findings and recommendations.

Victims and stakeholders will be invited to make submissions. Further information about the submissions process will be announced soon.

Once final, the review outcomes will ensure enhanced community safety and a focus on the rights of victims.

About Peter Hastie KC

Mr Hastie KC is a distinguished Kings Council and has a long and respected career as a barrister in Queensland. Mr Hastie was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1983, and was subsequently admitted in South Australia in 1990, New South Wales in 1991 and Victoria in 1991.

Mr Hastie KC has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Master of Laws and is experienced across a diverse range of areas of practice.
